As a separate territory and state since 1817, Alabama has had five capitals:
-
The first State Capital in Cahaba
-
The State House in Tuscaloosa
-
The early State Capitol in Montgomery
- The Current State Capitol in Montgomery

The state was named after the Alabama river, and the state enjoys year-round mild conditions with average temperatures near 80 in summer, and above 45 in winter. Highs do reach the mid 90s in the summer with plenty of humidity to go around. Northern parts of the state receive occasional short-lived snowfalls, and rainfall is spread somewhat evenly throughout the year. March is the rainiest month, while October is the driest. High humidity is common, especially in the southern areas and along the Gulf of Mexico.
