Delaware, the first state, is also the second smallest state in America. Thomas Jefferson described Delaware as a “jewel” among states due to its strategic location on the Eastern Seaboard. Delaware is home to more than half of the Fortune 500 companies. Agriculture, chemical and banking industires are the economic forces of Delaware. Beaches in eastern Sussex County attract a great number of tourists in the summer months. No sales tax has also made shopping a major industry in the state.
Delaware is the land of festivals. The Big August Quarterly is an annual religious festival held in Wilmington. The city of Wilmington is home to several ethnic festivals, including the Puerto Rican Festival, which includes a parade, the Polish Festival, the Greek Festival held at the Greek Orthodox Church, and the Italian Festival. One of Delawares most enjoyable festivals is called Punkin Chunkin. Pumpkins are shot from canons to see which pumpkin covers the greatest distance. Visit Delaware to be a part of this carnival atmosphere!
