North Dakota is the most rural of all the fifty states. It is sparsely populated and is located in the North of the country. It boasts of lush farmlands, wheat fields, ranches and wilderness. Most spectacular is the stark beauty of the badlands in the south. The Missouri river runs right through the middle of the state. It makes for irrigation as well as fishing and recreational opportunities.

Theodore Roosevelt was deeply impressed by the quiet beauty of the state. He invested in a ranch in the state that is now a part of the Roosevelt National park. Visit the North Dakota Heritage Centre at the capital city of North Dakota, Bismarck and the Devil’s lake, which is the largest natural lake in the state. It offers an array of water sports along its vast shoreline that runs for over 375 miles. Known for its waterfowl, grouse, pheasant, deer hunting and bass, trout and pike fishing, North Dakota has twenty state parks and recreation areas. Points of interest include the International Peace garden near Dunseith, Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site near Williston, Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site in Stanton, the State Capitol in Bismarck and the Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park.
