West Virginia is a booming state. Earlier a part of Virginia, West Virginia became an independent state in 1863. The relationship between Virginia and West Virginia is same as that of England and Scotland or Ireland. West Virginia is the most rural and isolated state in the region. Charleston is the capital and largest city of West Virginia. It is located in the Kanawha Valley, which is heavily industrialized.

You’ll find plenty of history, too. Harpers Ferry, site of one of the most famous raids in American history, is located here. Wheeling, is a small city rich in history. It retains a charm and character unparalleled for a town its size. The downtown area is simply gorgeous, Wheeling Island in particular, and Ogle bay Park is an impressive local getaway. Natural scenery is the biggest draw to West Virginia. The high peaks of the Allegheny Mountains at Spruce Knob and Seneca rocks draw climbers, bikers, and city dwellers looking for some much needed relaxation. The New River Gorge National River in the southern part of the state is good for hiking and breathtaking vistas and whitewater rafting. Historic battle sites such as Droop Mountain, afford gorgeous views. The Monongahela & George Washington National Forests in the Allegheny Mountains are beautiful. West Virginia is whole lot cheaper than to visit other states. Its sheer value for every penny spent!
