FLORIDA Polk County Sports Center Central Florida’s Polk County just broke ground on the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex, a site encompassing 250 acres on the east shore of Lake Myrtle, near Auburndale, a town of 12,000. The joint initiative between Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing, the Board of County Commissioners and City of Auburndale will contain various venues that can host national and international competitions. Polk County is home to the headquarters of the Independent Softball Association, USA Waterski and Florida Youth Soccer Association.
KENTUCKY New Sports Arena in Greater Cincinnati
The Bank of Kentucky Center, a 10,000-seat arena on the Northern Kentucky University (NKU) campus in Highland Heights, opens Sept. 24 with a concert by Carrie Underwood. The state-of-the-art facility will be home to NKU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams and host other sporting and entertainment events. Contact: 859-442-2652,bankofkentuckycenter.com.
SOUTH CAROLINA New Soccer Complex
Manchester Meadows, a new 70-acre park in Rock Hill, features six regulation and two championship soccer fields, stadium seating for 750 at the championship fields, and a Soccer Pavilion with concessions, park offices and a multi-purpose meeting space. Adjacent to the Manchester Village dining and shopping area, the park also has a Lake Pavilion, playground and trails for walking and biking. VIRGINIA Sports Shrine
The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Portsmouth honors more than 200 Virginia athletes, coaches, administrators, educators and journalists. Nine exhibit areas showcase 20 sports, covering college athletics, Olympic champions, the Washington Redskins, sports media and current Virginia sports events. Visitors can test their skills at basketball, base-ball, football, soccer and auto racing in the activities area of the facility, which opened in 2005. Read More
