St. Ambrose (Iowa) University, in partnership with the Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau and Quad Cities Sports Commission, will host the 2009 and 2010 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships. The events will be held at The Player’s Course at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., a PGA-approved course. The last time the championships were held at a PGA course was back in 1999 at the PGA National—Haig Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. There are 174 NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) schools that sponsor a varsity men’s golf program. The Quad Cities Sports Commission has hosted a variety of championship-caliber golf events, including the American Junior Golf Association Championships and Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championships. It also has organized the Quad Cities marathon, Women’s NIC Softball Tournament, ASA National Girl’s Championship (2004, 2006) and Mid-Continent Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament. The sports commission and Quad Cities CVB serve Davenport/Bettendorf, Iowa and Rock Island/Moline, Ill., and surrounding communities.
